Cousins are kind of a big deal in our family. When we were all together two weeks ago, the older cousins went out together after supper and even managed to get a late-night group picture.

Rachel, Ross, Kate, Worth, Sarah, George

Here's the iconic photo of the same bunch back in 1994. Look how cute they are!

Those six are pretty awesome but they're only 3/4 of the group. Here are the cabooses of the cousin train with the two that happen to be their siblings.

Maybe we can get all eight in one shot next time we're all together...

Gettin' There

Work on the 'playhouse' continues...and should be ready for play before too long. This is what it looked inside last time I posted. Now we have walls, paint, and more.

Bonus: After living in this house almost 36 years, we now have a place for a porch swing!

Happy Birthday to our newest three-year-old! His sense of humor, quick smile, and ability to contribute to any conversation (relevance not required!) continue to charm us all. Love you, precious Mack!

As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

For the second time in as many years, we celebrated the life of a soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Burial there is an honor that can't be bought but must be earned. Emmett's beloved father earned it many times over.

On Monday, his ashes were committed to that hallowed ground in the presence of his wife, three sons and three daughters (we were never daughters-in-law to him), all eight of his grandchildren, his two oldest great-granddaughters, extended family members, friends, and men he had served with over the years.

We cried, we laughed, and we loved each other. He would have been proud.

During the service, we were seated mere feet away from my daddy's grave. It comforts me to know that out of all of the vast acreage that is Arlington National Cemetery, our dads should rest so closely together.

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky
All is well, safely rest God is nigh.

Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar, drawing near
Falls the night.

Thanks and praise for our days
Neath the sun, neath the stars, neath the sky
As we go, this we know
God is nigh.

Flashback: Summer of '85

Found this gem today...

Summer of 1985

Now let's pan out...wonder what Sa's thinking? Probably that she's glad none of them are living with her any more! Ha.

Photo Bomb

We just couldn't get it together this year. Family photos were set for the night of the low country boil; little did we know that we would be the ones boiling. The heat index was 105 with humidity in the upper nineties and that was around seven at night! We were cleaned up, dressed up, and then completely sweated up before we could even think about getting down to the beach. The picture we did get a few mornings later...well, let's just say we didn't think it through. Sarah took two (two!) pictures and both featured a photobombing bird. Really?

Just so you can see what I was working with, here are the uncropped photos:

We've done better in previous years:

Maybe next year...
