Celebrating Early

On the way home from an overnight visit with mama, we stopped by the farm for an early celebration of Banks' birthday.

Oh, yeah. I can make a mess with this!

Bo supervises, now that he is four. :)

Wasn't quick enough to catch the unprompted thanks,
but did manage to get this version later. Precious!

Look, Banks! Left-handed clubs!

Finally, the child can hit the ball with the club face.

These clubs also came with a caddy.

Waiting for cake...

...and Mia steals some snuggle time.

Mama holds the cake while daddy pulls diaper duty.

Ever with some sort of ball, Banks eyes mama and daddy.

Not sure what's going through his mind...

...but he blew out the candle just fine.

One last squish on the birthday boy before heading home.

Wreaths Across America, 2016

Since that time our sweet niece, Rachel, has moved to DC; I asked her to visit her Gramps' grave and send us a photo of the wreath laid there. So thankful she was able to do this for E.W., George, and Joe.

My First Christmas

Santa wasn't as extravagant then as he is now!

My first Christmas, in Erlangen, Germany. Santa brought a sturdy high chair; it's lasted through me, our kids, nieces and nephews, and so far, five of our six grandchildren. I expect Grey will be getting his turn when he's old enough.

Mack's Christmas Pageant

He was so well behaved! I think his mama was a little surprised!

E.W. and Mack after the pageant.

Junebugs in the Classic City

Ellen, Sylvia, and I hit the road Friday for a weekend visit with Mary Ann. The four of us have so much fun together and yes, there was a lot of laughter...and not many pictures.

The Grinch: our Friday night cocktail.

Saturday we dropped by Kate's so I could give Bo his birthday gift and the girls could see the kiddos.

Grey's listening hard to Sylvia.

Bo didn't have time to sit down but Banks was insistent
that he and Grey wear their Santa hats.

E.W. and I hosted the office Christmas party tonight; what a delight to break bread and spend time with these folks.

Deck the Halls

Little by little, it's starting to look a lot like Christmas in our home. Here are a few peeks...

On the hutch in the kitchen, greenery with a bow made by my mama,
a small watercolor by my friend, and Worth's third grade Christmas craft.

Merry & Bright on the mantel.

Santa stitching a flag (a gift from Sa) and
a Santa and the flag card (from Sa and Gramps years ago), framed.

Still looking for the Baby Jesus
(sorry for the reference to an inside-the-family joke)

Sweet Holy Family

My great-grandmother's organ, ready for carols.

A close-up of the plate on the organ. It was painted for me by my
grandmother Kate's best friend, Aunt Gussie to me,  in 1961.

This year's version of the tree...

...and this year's special ornament.

Tiny tree by the front door.

Santa plates, a gift from Linda many years ago,
top the desk my great-grandfather made.
Mary Ann did the watercolor of the Hammack house, where Sa grew up.

Nativity figures, a gift from cousin Livvie, are on top of a china cabinet
that was hers originally. The angel was given to me by
my sister (cause we married brothers), Sue.

Kate made the blocks, the mantel came out of my great-grandmother's home,
and I bought the nesting Santas
before I even had children old enough to play with them.

Our home, especially at Christmastime, is a sentimental journey.
