Boys in the House

Kate and the boys came Wednesday afternoon to visit before a weekend of football and trick-or-treating (Jay was in Austin...with torrential rain that shut down the airport, resulting in him arriving at our house in the wee hours of Halloween morning). We spent a lot of time outside!

Walking in the grass can be tricky!

Practicing his swing.

Running to make the next swing.

Mama and baby brother obey when Bo says, "Watch me!"

Watch me!

Another day, another round of golf.

Well, I know you're supposed to do something with this.
Oh, and there's a ball.

Good mornin'!

Making brownies for the tailgate.

Ah, so THIS is what you're supposed to do!

Scavenger found brother's water under the chair.

Next up: a day trip to Valdosta to watch the Dawgs (ugh) and Trick-or-Treat with the cousins!

Mama Makes A Wish

Years ago, long before my daddy became so sick, he asked mama what she would do if he died suddenly. She told him she'd go to the beach and he laughed at her and said, "You would!" She clarified that being at the beach would put her in a frame of mind to think about what would come next. She's always loved the beach and believes completely that it will "cure whatever ails you."

Last year mama told me she wished she could see the ocean one more time and this week we made that wish come true. She and I spent a few days doing a lot of nothing but letting the ocean talk to us and making sweet memories.

First thing we did was sit outside for a while; this smile says it all!

If you look closely in the bottom corner, you'll see a happy woman.
She spent a lot of time trying to read but the ocean was a distraction!

We spent a lot of time doing this (I don't dare show the picture of her with
her bathroom hiked up so her legs could be in the sun!)...

...and enjoying  this:

Looks like Putter and Miss Scarlett are the popular kids in the neighborhood. Not only is Mellow still coming around every afternoon for dinner, but Bob from next door has joined the gang (when he and Scarlett are not hanging out at his house).

Scarlett eyes Mellow as he approaches his dinner.

Putter scowls from behind the planter.

Bob sprawled out, just watching Mellow eat.

Scarlett surveying the three on the terrace
from her perch on the breezeway.

We're not sure what the pecking order is, but watching these four watch each other is about as exciting as it gets around here some days.

Monday Morning

What a treat to spend some time with this sweetheart! Fall Break, a sitter cancellation, and a brother and sister who slept in (Ellie doesn't know anything about sleeping in!) meant she and I had time to giggle, talk about our love of reading, and just enjoy some one-on-one time together. Love the engine that drives our grandchildren train!

Some went to Boston; some stayed home.

Kate and Jay had a trip to Boston planned, so after the debacle that was the Alabama game, E.W. and I stayed on to keep Bo and Banks. These two couldn't have been any sweeter...they just went right along with the schedule and ate and slept (!) like champs. It helped that the sun finally came out and we were able to be outside.

E.W. left Wednesday, so Mary Ann came over that last night and brought supper. Bo ate his weight in pizza and salad! The boys loved her being there for the supper, bath, and bedtime routine and so did I!

A Tale of Two Towns

Two from Tifton, four from Athens, and two who just moved from Tifton to Athens. It was a great night at DePalma's and I loved my worlds colliding, despite the lack of photo evidence! I appreciate these women so much.
