Mr. Paint Pig Strikes Again

My love of paint has been well documented; it's such an easy way to completely change and freshen a room or piece of furniture. I fully embrace my Mr. Paint Pig reputation.

Obviously, an updated kitchen needs an updated wall color. Valspar's Laura Ashley Deep Cowslip 4 has been cheering us up for about ten years but now I'm ready for a look that's cool and calming.

Since some trim is being replaced and the floors aren't in yet, it only made good sense to get a first coat done. I wanted a color that would be neutral, yet not beige. Aviary (where do they get these names?) by Valspar seems to be exactly that. It's not quite green, nor blue, nor gray. It definitely reads green on my computer monitor but in the room, it is exactly right. It's so right that I'm going to paint the laundry room. Again.

I am excited to see how it looks once the trim and new wainscot are painted a crisp white (not by me; I do NOT do oil-based with a smile)!

Cabinet Week

After a week of looking at bare walls, cabinet installation began around noon on Monday (installation was scheduled for last Thursday and Friday, hence working on a holiday).

Monday morning

Every afternoon, there was a bit of progress.

Here's another view that shows a big part of Friday's work: hardware.

A few touch-ups and tweaks are needed; other than that, cabinets are done!

Replacing the bead board wainscot and running the hood vent are on tap for Monday, and there's a rumor that flooring installation will begin on the 6th. Sounds like a good plan for week 3. Lighting can't be too far behind.

Weekend at the Lake

We spent Saturday and Sunday at the Berryman's lake house; Kate married into a precious family with wonderful friends! We always enjoy our time with them.

Bo's a big fan of water and his dad,
so this was a perfect combination for him!

Almost there, dad.

Bo eyes Kendall's baby. A kidnapping soon followed.

Kendall was not impressed.

Ha. She straightened that out.

It's all good with a little pillow talk.

Two peas in a pod.

Jay had to do it all: drive the boat
AND settle the littles down.

Lake People

Told you; he loves water!

He also cracks up his mama.

Making Do

When your kitchen looks like this,

your dining room looks like this.

You make coffee and microwave vegetables by the front door.

You store all of the kitchen essentials on the paint scaffolding
and cook supper in your electric skillet atop the washing machine.
You also give thanks because you know that to many,
this setup would be considered luxurious.

9 months!

I snagged this photo from his mama; precious Mack at nine months.

Not sure if Worth or Ashley took this one, but I never want to forget it! It's like he knows he's supposed to be relaxing but at the same time, he's very skeptical.

Sweet boy.

Defying Gravity in Boogie Shoes

Saturday was dance recital day for Ellie so E.W. and I headed down to take in the show. She had a full audience: all four grandparents, her mama and daddy, and Emma and Mack (who wasn't all that interested in the recital to be honest).

Her group performed twice: Defying Gravity (ballet) and Boogie Shoes (tap).

Call me a proud grandmother, but our girl seems to
know what she's doing.

Defying gravity; her favorite part of the dance.

She's got moves in her boogie shoes.

Job well done!

Proud to have flowers from E.W. and Papa

On our way home we decided to stop for lunch and Chappie and Serita were walking in at the same time. Even though we'd been at the recital with them, we didn't get to visit there so we were glad to get to visit with them over some great barbecue.

We've scrutinized samples and signed on the dotted line, so here's hoping we like these rocks when they're installed!

a junebug birthday

Last night we celebrated Sylvia's birthday (we won't say which one, but she is the youngest of the group!). It's always a good time when the 'bugs get together!
