The Trophy Goes To:

Watching my mama and daddy dance as they have so many times through the years, their movements perfectly matched, brought tears to my eyes tonight. It was incredibly precious and a wonderful new memory.

School's Out!

Thankfully I have learned (with age comes wisdom and a modicum of grace, I suppose) to handle attention (although Emmett would say that the need for attention is the one way I was spoiled as an only child, it's different in the workplace). The SpEd Dept greeted me this morning with a retirement version of the restaurant birthday chant and in return I performed a happy dance for them. They gave me gift cards to Barnes and Noble & Starbucks, as well as an engraved bookmark. This, along with the B&N card from the CTAE Dept, will let me have a great shopping spree, won't it? I'm looking forward to that. Then, at the end-of-the-year lunch, all of the 'old gray mares' were given beautiful white rockers with a small plaque. Again, as the first one called up, I was glad that I was able to handle all those eyes with grace. I had a few minutes for individual goodbyes from Jean, Lynn, and Cammie, but my overall perception is that the last month flew by and this day got here in a hurry! As much as I will miss friends at TCHS, it's a good feeling to know that all of the drama, confusion, and 'new educational strategies' will go on next year without me being in the middle of it. I'm looking forward to new challenges and pray for continued good health.

My sweet husband threw a surprise party to celebrate my last day and I appreciate good friends sharing the occasion: Chanon & Marshall, Mary Ann C., Ellen & Ron, Sylvia & Roy, Ann & Tommy, Christy & Nelson, Brian, Dee Dee & Sherwood, Kay, Jean, Mary Ann S., Angie & Erick. Thank you, Em, love of my life. Every day I am grateful for God bringing us together.

A Matter of Honor

Excerpt from Prayer for Peace, Memorial Day, 2008, A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America: "...Americans are grateful to all those who have put on our Nation's uniform and to their families, and we will always remember their service and sacrifice for our freedoms...We pray for the members of our Armed Forces and their families, and we ask for God's continued guidance of our country...

Life is good in the 'hood.

A couple of Sundays with the Collins, a golf scholarship, and a lazy morning; it's all good in the 'hood this May.

E.W. and Marshall grillin' kabobs.

Our faux grandchildren.

Uncle Cranky survives his trip next door.

A lazy morning; notice who jumps in my chair
the minute I get up.

Another Sunday night.

33 Years

Do you think the teacher on the left is asking the teacher on the right where the last 33 years went? I'm pretty sure the 22-year-old won't have a clue!

Name the Baby: Poll Update

E.W. has updated his poll, eliminating Lizzie and thankfully, Burpette. He also included Kate's pronouncement that Precious Angel has been taken for years, lest anyone think that name is available. I think Elizabeth will tell us what she wants to be called when she makes her appearance.

I'm Wearing Pink Today!

I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that I will have a granddaughter! Unlike my own pregnancies, which in my lack of life experience I took for granted, I recognize this one for the miracle it is. Elizabeth Tift Bowers, we can't wait to welcome you to the world. Your Auntie Kate said your daddy may have gotten a little emotional when he saw you floating around inside your mama yesterday. I say that's a good thing. Betsey warned us that you would steal our heart but that it would be okay because we wouldn't want it back anyway. I can't wait!

The E.W. Poll

Here's E.W.'s version of the "what shall we call Elizabeth" poll, which he posted on his whiteboard in the carport. Feel free to drop by and vote! :-)

Elizabeth Tift Bowers!

Today's ultrasound showed clearly (I'll leave the posting of that to her parents) that our grandchild is a girl! Of course, the picture that captured my heart is her tiny foot. The four grandparents met for supper to celebrate the good news and make plans for spoiling our granddaughter! We are so blessed.

For details and to vote in the 'what to call the baby' poll, visit the B'ham Bowers Blog! Thanks for sharing in our joy!

Waiting for News

Today is the day of Ashley's ultrasound to find out if they are having a girl or boy! We are meeting her folks for supper at 6:30 and all the grandparents will learn the news together, which will be great fun. What we find out today will shape our lives from now until forever, won't it? In the same way it seems that Ashley and all of her family have been a part of us, so it will be with this new little person with whom God is blessing our family.

St. Simons Tornado

Dena sent pictures of the Mother's Day tornado - scary!

Starting the Day With My Daughter

Kate and I went to Starbuck's and had a good visit before I headed to work and she headed back to Athens. Love this girl and pray for her future constantly. I'm so thankful her care was entrusted to us by God.

Which stork?

We hope Ashley's ultrasound on the 19th will tell us which one of these storks is on the way to B'ham. If you think you know, visit the B'ham Bowers Blog and cast your vote in the poll!

Back to School

Kate will begin working toward her M.Ed. in math education at UGA this summer! Won't she be a great math teacher?

I'm going to paint my grandchild's room next month! What a thrill to be a part of the new life that is being knit together under God's direction. I look at this as an opportunity to surround this child with love on all sides as I mix paint with prayers.

The times, they are a-changin'

Each day is one day closer to the changes 2008 promises to bring and I am looking forward to the adventures ahead. I believe that this New Year's Eve, we will look back and be amazed at the differences one year can make.
