It's A Wonderful Life: Edition It's A First

No comments:
Thanks to some wonderful friends, Kate and Jay were showered with everything they will need to celebrate all of the 'firsts' in their marriage...first tailgate, first beach trip, first Thanksgiving, first rainy day, first party...you get the idea.  The theme really got the creative juices going!  We are humbled by all of the love shown to our Kate and her beloved and again, our hearts are so full.

Dawgs and More Dawgs

No comments:
A quick weekend trip to the Classic City...wowed by Stegeman's renovation, the gymnastics team over Auburn and the basketball team over Mississippi State...and just a tiny bit of wedding talk.

This Face

E.W. and I wish we could see this sweet face.  Thank goodness that in a few short months she and her family are moving so much closer!

Flashback: January 18, 1903

This is my grandmother, Kate, as a toddler with her parents.  Growing up, I coveted this photo to the point that she finally had a copy made for me!
I didn't know the background behind it until many years later when genealogy research turned up this picture:
You'll notice the three of them, front and center.  Turns out the photo was taken at a family reunion and I actually had the newspaper account of the event in a scrapbook that had belonged to a sister (Carrie Hughie Sponcler) of my great great grandmother (Mrs. W.A. Wright)!

A Happy Reunion
A pleasant week spent in a reunion of the Hughey family of East Point, these were gathered together at the homes of A.R. Hemperly, W.A. Wright, and J.C. Austin.  There were, out of twelve living chldren, nine brothers and sisters from different parts of Georgia and Texas, to wit: Mr. T.M. Hughey, of Emory, Texas, Mrs. M.A. Dickey, of Commerce, Texas, Mrs. Carrie Sponcler, Newnan, Ga, Mrs. Susie Kilgore, Hay, Ga., Mr. J.P. Hughey, Jonesboro, Ga., Mr. E.R. Hughey, Red Oak, Ga., Mrs. A.R. Hemperley, Mrs. W.A. Wright and Mrs. J.C. Austin, of East Point, Ga.  Those not present were Mr. J.B. Hughey, Tyus, Ga., Mr. M.K. Hughey, Bowden, Ga., and Mrs. J.J. Vance, of Tallapoosa, Ga.  The youngest of the nine brothers and sisters present is 40 years old.
Sunday, January 18th, being the last day of the reunion, brought together, at the residence of J.C. Austin, between 50 and 60 of the relatives which was the most enjoyable time among these brothers and sisters since the war.  Sunday was spent in hand-shakings and relating the numerous experiences to each other.  Monday brought this happy reunion to a close, with the sad thought of separation, trusting that, if never again on this old earth, their next meeting might be an unbroken reunion around the Throne of the Father in Heaven.

Flashback: Meant to Be

No comments:
So...GA/FL weekend, 2005.  Jennifer and Kate were staying at cousin George's place on the island.  Naturally they had to be where the action was, in the Village at Brogen's.  They were not the only ones; check out the guy laughing on the left of the picture.
Jennifer, George, and Kate
also Jay, laughing over there in the background!
Kate was going through some photos today and noticed him in the background.  It's further proof that she and Jay crossed paths for years before they actually met (she's on the sidelines cheering in his football senior highlight video and he actually lived here during her last two years of high school)!  Thankfully, Kate also met Rose (one of my ADPi sisters) that weekend.  Rose eventually met Jay (in Alabama - crazy, right?) and told him she knew the perfect girl for him when he got back to Athens.  Turns out she was right.

Ten Days

Today was the tenth day. Last time, that was the magic number.  This time, sad to say, it's not.  Miss Scarlett, we miss you terribly and if you ever decide to come home, well...you know where we are.

Out With the Old

He got me through some rough times back in the pre-google days, but now that my children are 28 and 31, it might be safe to ditch the Dr. Spock, doncha think?

self-portrait

27 Months, A Self-Portrait
Ellie's love of the camera has expanded beyond cheesing and wanting to see each new picture on the screen of the camera...now she's into the self-portrait. Here's just one of the many she took with my camera last week. Quite possibly she needs to perfect the hold-the-camera-way-out-and-smile technique!
