100% Humidity

We had a great time at the tailgate...the game...not so much. The weather was just about perfect during the day, but by game time the bottom fell out. Gully washers and a near loss are not a combination for big fun at a football game. The only weather-related plus was the hilarity caused by the creative rain gear we saw (see last photo below for one example). We are looking forward to seeing family and friends for the next tailgate and we're already checking weather.com to see what's in store for Saturday!

Say It Ain't So

Could the weatherman PLEASE change the forecast for Saturday's game?

Show Us Where You Live: Favorite Dessert

Although it's hard for us to pick just ONE dessert, this one is at the top of the list because it's easy AND it makes two pies. This way, you can have one to serve and one to keep in the freezer for unexpected company (who will be MOST impressed that you have this on hand). I'm also a fan of anything that can be done ahead of time. This dessert deserves a fancier name but we just call it:

Brownie Pie

Prepare a brownie mix and divide batter between two pie plates and bake as directed. Let cool.

Divide a slightly softened half-gallon of ice cream (vanilla, rocky road, chocolate chip, ripple, chocolate chip mint, butter pecan....you decide; they're all good) between the pies and spread smooth with a spatula. Cover pies with plastic wrap (and foil if it will be in the freezer a while) and freeze.

Take brownie pie out of freezer ten minutes or so before serving and top with sliced almonds, chocolate syrup, or other topping.

NOTE: There is no variation of this that isn't delicious. We've tried it with pecans in the brownie part and used butter pecan ice cream topped with crushed pecans; the kids we know are weird about nuts so we drizzle chocolate syrup on the top to make it fancy.

One!

I'm not sure anyone has EVAH enjoyed a birthday more than Ellie enjoyed her first one. We enjoyed sharing it with her and wish our Ellie Bean many, many more.

You can see more of the festivities HERE and HERE. We transitioned from birthday into tailgate mode and although the Dawgs are trying to wear us OUT this season, we do thank them for coming up with the WIN over Arkansas...great ending to a wonderful day.

This Time Last Year

On the evening of September 18, 2008, we got THE phone call. "We're headed to the hospital," Worth said. We threw some clothes into the car and we were OFF to B'ham.
Ellie was in a hurry and arrived at 1:16 a.m. on the 19th, about an hour before we did. I remember walking into the room and glancing at Ellie but heading straight for Ashley and giving her a big hug; I could not greet my granddaughter without first thanking her mother for such a miracle. After a quick congratulations and hug for our son, we joined Ashley's mama and daddy in admiring our first grandchild.

A year later, we're still in awe.

First Home Game and an SEC Win!

A 7:00 kick-off means approximately ten hours of tailgating (twelve if you count from the time E.W. got the tents set up). We missed having our B'ham bunch with us, but look forward to them coming to the Classic city soon. After a wild ride of a game, the Dawgs managed a win and any win is a good win, so we'll take it and move forward from there. Here are a few snaps from the day...
