Saturday at E.W. and Mia's House

Ellie had a busy day today, filled with snuggles, smiles, and visitors. Thanks to Emory & Jill, Chanon & Caelan, and Erick & Angie for stopping by. Can I just say that MY WORD being a grandparent is just DELICIOUS.

You want me to do what?

Emory, I don't know how to sit up yet.

Lunch time!

Worn out.

So big!

Grinnin' at Caelan

Erick's wishing he'd had one of these.

Snuggle time with her E.W.

Relaxing with daddy.

Horsey ride before bath time.

Ooh, I love these bubbles!

Ellie's in the 'hood!

Worth and Ellie got here this afternoon for their much anticipated weekend visit. While the guys were at the golf course, Ellie and I spent some sweet time together. Then tonight, her other grandparents came over and joined us for dinner and a show. Yes, Ellie was the show! We miss having Ashley here but hope she's getting some well-deserved rest.

Hey, there.

What's that?

Time to supervise supper preparation...

...or grab a quick nap.

Kiss my foot!

Eye contact!

Ready to stand up and go!

Papa and Grandma are here.

Helping Grandma with the salad

Suggles after supper.

A fly by!

Baby in the sink!

Clean Ellie.

Things

Mamacita has gotten inside my mind and heart again.

What I’m really discovering - once again, because I already knew this but it fades back in between times - is that the blending of our loved ones’ “things” with ours, is a kind of continuity of life. In my home, there are things that once belonged to parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, friends. . . . when I see and use these things, it’s almost as if someone I loved and lost is there with me again. Grandma’s bowl, Mamaw’s serving dishes, Mom’s casseroles, Dad’s books, Grandad’s toolbox, Papaw’s hat, Great-grandma’s aprons. . . . Our beloved dead aren’t really gone, you know. Bits and pieces of them are still here with us, carrying on with us in a day-to-day fashion, and when we use the “things” they left behind, still warm inside with the heat of their hands and bodies, shiny with the patina held only by silvery things that have been handled by many, many people - no new silver shines quite like old silver - they are with us again. The fingerprints of our beloveds are all over the most important “things,” and the MOST important thing they’ve marked is our hearts.

Anticipation & Flashback Friday

We are SO READY for Ellie to be here. There may have been some naps taken in this crib through the years but the last baby who spent the night in it was our niece, Rachel, who is a sophomore in college! People always thought it was a little strange that we had the baby bed set up in the guest room, but I've always known that one day we'd have a grandbaby who would sleep in it. I bought new linens last summer before Ellie was born and now they are laundered and ready for her sweet self. I imagine that before any sleeping takes place, we'll spend some time in this rocker. She'll be the third generation to relax to the steady creaking of this particular chair and it's a memory I look forward to making. And just for fun, here are pictures of Ellie's daddy and Auntie Kate in that crib!

Five Months Old!

Ellie is five months old now. E.W. and I are looking forward to a visit from her in a week; we are VERY EXCITED! She'll be sleeping in the crib her daddy and Auntie Kate slept in and I bet we get a chance to do some rocking in the chair my mama had when I was a baby, which as we know was a LONG TIME AGO. I loved rocking her daddy and auntie in it and can't wait to rock this sweet grandbaby in it.

Three If By Air

Kate and I are going to Boston! It was one of her favorite destinations when she worked with AirTran and I'm looking forward to her showing me a city she's come to love. In a few weeks we'll be off on a mother-daughter adventure! Can't wait!

Wonder

Wonder is this week's theme on I Heart Faces. Ellie has been fascinated with her hands lately...their very existance seems to enchant her...look at the wonder in her eyes!

Gettin' Better All the Time

Ellie seemed to think she was at the photo studio instead of the doctor's office. We're thankful she's feeling better.

Balancing Act

Ellie thought she'd practice a few skills before it was time to go to her doctor's appointment. First she worked on her standing skills...

and then she did her morning workout in the exersaucer.

Will You Be My Valentine?

Did any of you have a more charming dinner date? I didn't think so. :)

Being with this sweet baby for a few days...delicious.

Flashback Friday: Love, Look at the 2 of Us

Here we are on a day trip to Virginia Beach, a week after our blind date. I guess we had already decided that we liked each other! Who knew that decades later, we'd still be smiling?

Our Tiny Valentine

How precious is this little Valentine? Her daddy dressed her in pink but you can see that she's still a dawg fan! E.W. and I are calling today Valentine's Day so that I can go to B'ham to spend a few days with Ellie. Can't wait to see her (and yes, her mama and daddy, too)!

*alert*
Just putting you on notice. So that you can be ready for the cuteness of it all. For the next few days, there will be plenty of Ellie pics posted!

What A Difference A Day Makes

There is still MUCH to be done, but parts of the house are returning to habitable-by-humans status. You will notice there are NO photos of the dining room, the front hall, or the back of the living room. I did say PARTS of the house!

The study yesterday...

...and the study today!

The bedroom yesterday...

...and the bedroom today!

It's livable again.

The living room yesterday...

...and the living room today!
Still a lot to be done, but with our main spaces straight, I can breathe!

After All These Years

Those of you who haven't lived with elderly and stained carpet FOREVER will not appreciate the joy in our home today. Our bedroom and study are JUST LIKE NEW. I am still trying to decide which moment was best...seeing the old carpet leave...

or watching the new carpet come in.

After wrestling with a rolltop desk that weighs approximately as much as an elephant and putting the bed back together, imagine how much we look forward to wrangling all of of this back into the study and bedroom:
